The Wordy Bit
Following the pattern exactly should yield a baby blanket that is 29 inches wide and 36 inches long (depending on your tension). Feel free to customize the size by chaining more at the beginning (making sure to chain a multiple of 3) and continue the row pattern for whatever length you desire.
This blanket came about from my brother wanting a gift for a co-worker. He wanted something gender neutral but not boring. I hope they agree this isn't boring! We had originally looked at the grey/white colorway of the Basic Stitch. Online, it looked great but in my opinion it was a bit busy for a baby blanket. I opted, instead, to create a stripe using the two different colors. This way, I had more freedom in stripe width, and I was able to play around a bit with patterns. We ended up with a bold yet elegant blanket design that should match pretty much any gender neutral nursery out there. (And coordinate with any stroller!)
Lion Brand Basic Stitch is a fantastic yarn to use for baby blankets. It's an anti-pilling yarn, so it won't fuzz up as bad as some. It also is machine washable and dryable (a must for a baby blanket, if I'm honest). The "blanket stitch" one row repeat makes a warm and dense fabric that is very squishy. If I weren't already working on a larger blanket for my home, I'd be tempted to whip up a larger version of this.
On a personal note, I do apologize for this post getting out to you later than usual. Things have been quite hectic for me, but they're finally starting to slow down. This weekend, I'm going to pre-write a couple months worth of posts so this doesn't happen again. I'll start with a simple (yet romantic) recipe for Valentine's day. My next craft post will be a bit different. I'll be writing about the projects I've currently got on my desk that I didn't design, as well as my thoughts and experiences with them. I also heard it's supposed to snow at my house tomorrow, and I think a fun snow day is just what we need!
